Jengre Ward
Jengre town (Jere District) is the seat of the Pengana Chiefdom. It hosts the Ogomo Pengana’s palace and was a British-era administrative center. In 1952 Mallam Sambo was installed as the first “Sarkin Pengana” with Jengre as his seat. Today Jengre Ward (Pengana constituency) remains politically significant and is the hub of local markets and government. The ward’s population is mostly of Buji/Jangwë (Amo) ethnicity (Jere subgroup) and is largely agrarian. Recently the community drew attention due to security concerns: in May 2023 residents protested the death of a youth leader who had been in military detention. Infrastructure is an issue – Pengana elders have specifically highlighted the poor state of the Faringada–Jengri federal road, and they continue to press for a well-equipped general hospital to serve Jengre Ward.
