Gabia Ward
Gabia Ward lies in the far southwest of Bassa LGA (some sources call it Bassa West, District of Kwall). It centers on Gabia town (the seat of the Rigwe chiefdom), and includes Kpasho and Ta’Avu villages. The inhabitants are primarily Rigwe speakers; this is the heart of the Rigwe ethnic area. Gabia is politically significant as it contains Nneirigwe (Rigwe) traditional institutions. It is part of Rukuba/Irigwe constituency, and its voters usually back candidates who champion Irigwe interests. As a development note, Gabia has a sizable population and its own health center. It sits at a key junction: the road from Jos branches here toward Kaduna and to Kauru. In recent years the Gabia-Wushishi road has been tarred under the Mutfwang administration. Local leaders continue to push for electrification and improved markets.
